Marwell Zoo 2025

What the Children Do
On Tuesday 1st April we visited Marwell Zoo to enhance our Science learning about animals. We were very excited to see all the animals and showcase the learning we had done in class.

After seeing the spotty snow leopards, rhinos, penguins and pygmy hippo it was time for our workshop with a park ranger at the zoo. He talked to us about the 5 different groups that animals are classified into based on their characteristics: mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles and birds. He was very impressed that we already knew the different groups and could tell him some animals that belong to each.
We were very interested in the artefacts he showed us, including feathers from birds, a beak, animal skulls, animal skins, shark teeth and an ostrich egg! We even got to touch some!
Then it was time for lunch. We were very lucky with the weather and could enjoy our lunch in the beautiful sunshine.
After lunch we wasted no time and made our way to the tropical house to look at the different plants and animals that thrive in a warmer climate. We managed to spot animals from all 5 of the different groups we had spoken about with the park ranger!
We were extremely lucky to get a peek at the tiger prowling in his cage as well as the meerkats, giraffes, zebras and even the red pandas!
We had such a brilliant day at Marwell Zoo and it was a fantastic way to round off our science learning from this half term :)
Thank you so much to all our wonderful parent helpers, who came on the trip today.
